Ateker Cultural Center (ACC) is established as an indigenous NGO based in Karamoja, Uganda.
It was founded in 2018 ( Legally registered in 2022 with Uganda NGO Bureau) by indigenous pastoralist’s women and youth who are committed and passionate about preserving and sharing the positive pastoralist’s values among the Ateker communities in the Horn of Africa. ACC’s main focus are on Natural Resource Management,  Pastrolism and Land , Advocacy, Cultural heritage, Justice and Peace.

Ateker people include; The Karamojongs (Uganda), Turkana (Kenya), Toposa and Jie (South Sudan), Nyangatom (Ethiopia) and other pastoral groups in the Horn of Africa.

Institutional Objectives

To promote and undertake research and share information on pastoral indigenous knowledge systems on food, land, dance, and other traditional practices
To improve people’s quality of life through showcasing pastoral heritage and upholding cultural practices in farming and food conservation.
To support Ateker traditional approaches for copying with wide spread climate vulnerabilities associated with food, water, animals and livelihood.
To strengthen media visibility for pastoralism through multimedia and advocacy promotion
To empower Ateker communities in the Horn of Africa to revive and uphold endangered culture, cultural institutions and indigenous cultural practices
To engage government and other stakeholders in the Horn of Africa to recognize traditional practices for socio ecological development
To encourages Ateker youth in schools and out of schools to appreciate culture and tradition by promoting intergenerational learning.
